“Safeguarding Our Indigenous Communities: Measuring the health and safety culture of Aboriginal fire crews and emergency service personnel in British Columbia”
For Aboriginal (First Nations and Métis) communities in British Columbia (BC), community protection is one of the most pressing concerns due to human and natural occurring activities, particularly wildfires, landslides and flooding that are becoming larger and more intense throughout various regions of the province. As Aboriginal firefighting and emergency service capacity building extends across the province, it is important to measure the health and safety culture of this occupational group as they continue to provide critical, on-the-ground and localized services to their communities.
In February 2011, FNESS worked with a multidisciplinary research team to examine occupational health and safety culture for Aboriginal fire crews and emergency service personnel in BC.
