Sunday, June 4 – Mandatory Captains Meeting
For those who are signing up for the 2017 BC First Nations’ Provincial Fire Fighter Competition, there is a mandatory meeting which should be attended by captains. If you are the captain of your team, we will be expecting you.

Monday, June 5 – 2017 BC First Nations’ Provincial Fire Fighter Competition

FNESS is hosting the provincial competition for First Nations firefighters across BC. The winning team represents BC at the National Firefighters’ Competition. Registration is free.

Tuesday, June 6 & Wednesday, June 7 – Exterior Fire Operations Firefighter Training

Training will include:
- SCBA Training: learn search techniques and emergency procedures to become a proficient user of this important safety equipment.
- Hose Handling and Fire Streams in active scenario based activities
- Forcible Entry, ventilation practices and firefighter self-rescue: Hands-on activities on forcing entry through doors and ventilating structures.
- Exterior Fire Operations in live fire scenarios including command structure and fire extinguisher training
- Introduction to Home inspection and Home Fire Life Safety Education
All fire fighters will rotate through the 5 training components during the two days of training.
Time: 8:45am to 4:00pm

Tuesday, June 6 – WorkSafe BC Research on Indigenous Leadership on Structural Firefighting

As a continuation to the successful Sunrise Session from 2016, FNESS will present one of the efforts made since last year to assist First Nation communities with enhancing their fire protection level. The research study that will be presented identifies leadership criteria in understanding the current and future leadership needs for BC First Nations fire officers. Also, it develops an initial competency framework to aid in recruitment and selection, performance management, learning and development and succession planning endeavours.
